Have you ever been fishing and fished for hours or even the whole day without getting a single bite? Of course you have, we all have. So what do you do about it? This is no time to randomly throw everything in your tackle box at the fish to see what might work. This would be a major mistake and you'll probably be odds on to get the same result you have had all day. A big fat nothing.
So how do you choose what
sea fishing lure to use? How do you find out what the fish are biting on?
For starters you could try a bigger lure, sometimes a bigger lure will work when the small one won't. Bigger lures fall more slowly in the water and that may make a difference.
Have a good look at the water quality, just because the day is bright doesn't mean that the visibility in the water is good. Sometimes the water is stirred up from storm activity or tidal movements. If the visibility is poor you will need a brighter or lighter colored fishing lure. Perhaps a flashing lure like a spoon or a spinner.
What is the natural bait in the area? Does one of your
sea fishing lures look like the natural bait? Do you have a lure which can have bait attached? What structures can you see and what structures are in the are? Look for patches in the weed bed, retrieve your lure over the weed or along the edge. If you can get the lure right down alongside the weed there is a chance that you'll get ambushed.
Think about the time of year, is it possible that there would normally be fry (baby fish) about? If so try a much smaller lure, use a soft minnow, try a squidgy or similar.
The art of finding a fish in the ocean has been described as seeking a needle in a haystack. While the analogy is reasonable you would do well to remember that fish always find food so perhaps it would be faster to attract fish to you than to work out where they are.
You can use burley even when you are fishing with lures. Any lure will work with the aid of berley. Spinners, plugs or crank baits will all work with a good berley trail.
There is another very special lure which can make a huge difference. This one creates it's own burley trail and attracts the small fish like crazy. These in turn attract the larger fish, the ones you want to catch. It's scientifically proven to work and crafted to maximize the results.
